If They Threatened You With Hell, Remember The Journey Is Yours
Content note: This post is about what a therapist told me about being taught that Hell exists. It's pretty direct, just FYI.
When I was in my twenties, my first ever therapist told me, "They're wrong when they say that you're going to Hell because you're looking after yourself, by putting your needs first. But if you believe them, just remember Hell's a viable option."
I could go there as a rebellion, she said, or because I didn't want to be with the people in Heaven—those who said I should harm myself, by putting their needs first. I could go to Hell in anger. I could go to see if they were wrong.
I don't believe in Hell anymore.
But she was right.
